The game of Roulette is a classic game that will surely bring any player a good time. Some say this is the game that combines all of the traits of an iconic Las Vegas game. You will need skill, energy and luck to turn your bets into large amounts of money. It is an easy enough game to learn how to play and many believe that this is the game to win at. It does not matter what kind of a player you are, you can play Roulette in any way. You can take your time and play it slow, or conservatively, climbing your way up the money ladder. You can even play Roulette with a no holds bar approach and place all your money on one number and pray that your number comes up. Roulette is the one game that will always keep you on the edge of your seat. No other game can give you the thrills that this one can and that is guaranteed.

If you have not guessed already the game of Roulette is of French origin. It is believed to have come about in the seventeenth century. This game is one that never lost its initial appeal in Europe, as it does in the United States, because it still enjoys a rather large following to this day. The original Monte Carlo casino in Monaco credits much of its success to the game of Roulette. It was one of the first casinos to prominently exhibit Roulette as a game of chance and intrigue. People with incredible luck seemed powerful and even indestructible. Roulette is played on a specifically designed table built to house the Roulette wheel and a bunch of printed boxes with different bets living within them. A standard table has the opportunity to have at most eight people playing at the same time. All players are betting against the house or a hosting internet gaming site. The dealer for Roulette is called a croupier. The croupier manages all of the bets, spins the wheel and snaps the ball. The European version of this game has thirty-seven slots on the wheel. That is one slot for every number in the game, starting with zero and ending in thirty-six. The United States, however, has thirty-eight slots on the wheel because there is a double zero option for betting as well.

As it was stated earlier, the croupier manages all of the bets on the table. Since there is a possibility of having at most eight different players at one table, there is the possibility of having more than one player bet on the same number. This is why the croupier gives every single player different colored chips, so that he and the players can distinguish which bets are theirs and which bets belong to which player. Roulette is on of the few games that actually use the color of the chips to distinguish between player rather than money amount.

The game of Roulette in itself is simple to understand. In order to win anything a player must make what most might call the obvious first move: placing a bet. Placing a bet is incredibly easy and mysteriously fun. All you have to do is place whatever amount of chips you want on one or multiple numbers, or colors. In Roulette you have the option to bet on what number the ball is going to land on or what color the ball is going to land on. A player can even bet on a row of numbers if he so chooses, or whether the number will be odd or even. There is a large variety in placing a bet for this game and of course, depending on how risky the bet is the more the pay out will be if the player wins. While the bets are still being placed the croupier will spin the wheel in one direction, as the ball is rolled on the outskirts of the said wheel in the opposite direction. The friction between the direction of the ball and the direction of the wheel eventually causes the ball to slow down, as does the wheel, and the ball will drop into one of the thirty-eight slots, or thirty-seven slots, depending on which version of Roulette you choose to play. The winning number is chosen at random for the round and the chances of winning are very much about luck. Each round is played back to back, with all of the bets being paid out and placed in between. A player can continue to place bets while the ball and wheel are spinning. It is until the croupier calls “No more bets!” and waves his hand over the table as a physical indicator that the opportunity for placing a bet is officially over. When the winning number is chosen, the croupier will place the dolly, which is a clear plastic marker resembling a large chess piece, on the winning number on the table layout. He will then proceed to collect lost bets and payout winnings appropriately, as players add bets, or take back their prizes.

Here is a list on what the pay outs are in the game of Roulette:

• A single number win: 35 to 1
• A two number or Split bet win: 17 to 1
• A three number bet or Row bet: 11 to 1
• A corner bet or four numbers: 8 to 1
• A five number bet: 6 to 1
• A two row bet: 5 to 1
• A Column bet: 2 to 1
• A dozen bet (series 1 through 12, 13 through 24, or 25 through 36): 2 to 1
• An even or odd bet: 1 to 1
• A red or black bet: 1 to 1
• A 1 through 18 or 19 through 36: 1 to 1

Roulette is commonly mistaken to be a complicated game but in fact it is one of the easiest games to get a handle on. In any case it is fun, but for those players who are interested in looking to put their skills to the test, or go head to head with a competitor in a battle of wits might want to look somewhere else for that kind of entertainment. Because in the end when it comes down to it, playing Roulette is mostly about luck. The little skill there is in Roulette is being able to recognize a pattern in the random spins the croupier is inclined to do. However, no matter what similarities a player can see in a croupier’s spin it is still a guess that the next number will be the number you placed your chips on. Like in any other game there are hot tables and cold tables, just as in craps, but there is no way to predict where the ball will land as long as the materials have not been tampered with. Some players will keep to hot tables simply because of the wins, superstitiously hoping the luck of another player is contagious. Or maybe they are simply hoping to steal that luck away and use it to their favor. Others prefer to play numbers that have not had a win yet, because they think the number is due. Still others will play as many as half the numbers on the table, increasing the odds of winnings, but reducing drastically the payout received. No matter what the so called strategies are of playing the game, it is sure to be an interesting game whether you win or lose. But that is what seems to be the fun in Roulette: the daring chance at complete and total failure or the success and vindication of a win.
